Systems Engineer

This is a contract opportunity with potential for permanent conversion.

This is a hybrid opportunity in Boston, MA.  

 

About this position

 

The Systems Engineer is responsible for administering, enhancing, and resolving issues in Enterprise’s VMware and Data Protection environments to ensure high availability and security.

Their focus is on maintaining security and availability through best practices, documentation, process improvement, and continuous learning. This role requires the ability to work independently, deliver excellent customer service, demonstrate attention to detail, and thrive in a team-based environment.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and administer a secure VMware environment.
  • Manage a secure data protection environment using various backup technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues within the environment.
  • Provide guidance on performance tuning, optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Establish comprehensive monitoring and alerting configurations with operational dashboards.
  • Collaborate with application owners on deployment and configuration.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for off-hours incidents.
  • Ensure adherence to security and compliance controls.
  • Analyze reported issues, identify trends, and propose preventative solutions.
  • Contribute to Continuous Process Improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-team projects.

 

Skills/Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) preferred.
  • Proficiency in automating tasks with Powershell/PowerCLI.
  • Experience with VMware 7.0 or higher, including vCenter, vSphere, and the vRealize Suite.
  • Familiarity with backup and storage technologies such as Rubrik, CommVault, NetBackup, and Veeam.
  • Experience with disaster recovery tools like SRM and Zerto.
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Understanding of SOX and SOC controls.
  • Strong infrastructure technical skills, preferably in a global environment, ideally within the Finance or other regulated industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication, flexibility, self-motivation, and teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with global teams and customers.

  • Hybrid work environment – 3 days onsite in Boston, MA

 

Pay/Salary Range:

 

  • Pay Range: $50-60/hour
